Asia and Oceania Championships Macao 2024
New Zealand SAMBO sent a team of Three to compete at the Asia and Oceania Championships in Macao. Layia West, Bradlee Wong and Eddie Taliaia all represented NZ proud.
Layia competed in Sports and Combat Sambo, Layia became NZ's first athlete to win a match at a international competition in Combat Sambo securing a bronze medal in the -59kg weight division. Layia also placed 5th in the Sport Sambo discipline.
Eddie competed in Combat Sambo -88kg weight division. After a exciting, and very close match with some of Sambos worlds best athletes Eddie settled for a bronze medal, taking team NZ's total to 2.
Bradlee competed in Sport Sambo -71kg weight division. This division also full of tough and seasoned Sambo competitors, unfortunately proving too tough to secure a top placing, coming out if the competition with a huge amount of experience ready for more, placing 5th.
Congratulations on your well deserved efforts team NZ, Sambo New Zealand is becoming stronger and a respected up and coming country each time our athletes compete and international events such as this.
